Beer Today, Gone Tomorrow

We’re gearing up to celebrate National Beer Day over here and partnered with our favorite beer aficionado, Ryan, from Middle West to pick a few tasty sours  – our favorite beer trend this summer.

Anderson Valley Briney Melon Gose

The Gose-style (read: Go-Zuh) has been blowing up over the last year, and for good reason. This classic German style is uber-refreshing with a blend of subtle citrus and spice, matched by a crisp salty finish. Anderson Valley has brewed up a series of Gose, at their NorCal brewery, with Briney Melon being a favorite. Dip your watermelon rind in salt and have a lick – that’s what you’ll taste here.

Oddside Ales Queen of Tarts

Next up, a local Michigan favorite – Oddside Ales. Their sour series includes the Queen, King, and Joker of Tarts. Each start with a Berliner Weisse – a sour, wheat ale. Oddside then adds different fruit profiles to add to the complexity and tartness. Queen of Tarts incorporates raspberry – a nod to the traditional Belgian Framboise – while maintaining a wonderful sour kick.

Rodenbach Grand Cru

If you enjoy American sours, take it up a notch and try something from the sour homeland – Belgium. Many of the biggest names like Cantillon or Drie Fonteinen can be hard to find stateside. Rodenbach can often be found collecting dust on the shelf of your local bottle shop, take a closer look next time you’re beer shopping. Grand Cru is a big complex sour, with pucker-worthy tartness of cherry and plum.

If you enjoy Grand Cru, try a Rodenbach Vintage. Aged for several years, intensifying the sourness and complexity, this beer will truly #makeascene on your taste buds.
