Golden Gate Bridge
Setting the Foundation
Cat® tractors pulled scrapers to handle the excavation, helping prepare the site for the construction and completion of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Upon construction, the Golden Gate Bridge was the longest + tallest suspension bridge in the world, fueling growth and connection in California.
Today, it supports 40 million annual crossings and attracts 10 million visitors. It remains an iconic landmark, known for its distinct “international orange” color, graceful lines, and suspension engineering.

Channel Tunnel
Moving the earth
More than 100 Cat® machines helped dig the tunnel and build access terminals and new roads near Dover, England and Calais, France. Earth moving equipment on-site were Cat® machines including dozens of 769 Trucks and D400 Dump Trucks.
Completed in 1994, the Channel Tunnel provided the first fixed connection between Great Britain and the European mainland. It remains the longest underwater tunnel ever constructed, transporting over 20 million passengers each year.
Today, it’s seen as an engineering marvel that is associated with a visual combination of the cavernous, concrete abyss juxtaposed with stark, industrial lighting seen throughout.
