Good solid boot - by , Mar 09, 2019
4/ 5 Stars
Good boot, brakes in fast and just enough insulation to keep my foot warm. The nylon shank is great, I spend about half my work day on a ladder. Will definitely buy again.

just for background purposes, i will relate that my current job is a footwear-hell-proving-ground of epic proportions; a retail seafood operation, lots of water, cold, slippery floors, abrasive surfaces that eat soles, etc, etc. i've chewed up 5 pairs of Cat Flexion Generators at this place, average life span 6 months each. while i like the FG just fine, i've decided lately to try some of the others, and am also currently using a pair of Definitions and a pair of Brodie HTs for variety. here are my main considerations, and thoughts on how the Diagnostic performs and meets my needs/expectations: *Waterproof: must be waterproof from the get-go; i treat all my boots with mink oil, to be on the safe side, and preserve them... the Diagnostic has a design that works to minimize leakage into the boot, ie, through the tongue seams or other portals. i have had no problems w leakage or permeating water thus far. *Comfortable: these boots have a very nice fit, totally what i'd expect based on the other models i've used. the Definition is my fit-favorite, but i'd rate Diagnostic as a close 2nd. the support it provides is excellent, and there is nothing tiresome about a workday spent in these boots. *Sure-footed: the slip-resistance of these boots is as good as any others i've used. this includes on freezer floors and soapy/greasy/fish-slimed hard-surface floors. i would think that the tread on these boots will last as long as the upper material, and perform well for the duration. *Maintainable: some boots are easier to keep clean and taken-care-of than others. i have had no issues with stuff like foreign matter stuck in soles, or discoloration or scuffing of the uppers. some saddle soap and mink oil once every few days keeps them looking very nice, and water doesn't soak in. basically, everything i like about this boot is right in line with what i like in general about Caterpillar footwear: -good design -good construction -built with real-world use in mind, intended to perform in demanding conditions, reliably. i especially recommend this one to others who find their work conditions involve wet and slip hazards.

A really solid work boot. - by , Feb 16, 2016

I work in some of the roughest conditions. Rain, snow, or sun these boots held up. My boots did get damp in the rain after maybe 6 months but pretty much were dry just walking through a puddle. I have abused these boots something bad. My boots have held up to 14 months of real abuse. I never owned a pair of boots that have lasted more than 4 months. My wife was really happy they lasted so long. My only issue is they are not American Made. I will gladly pay more to support my fellow Americans.

I own two pairs of these boots and have had them for almost two years. I love them. With an added insole, they are the most comfortable shoes I own. They are not overly heavy. They have been very durable for all types of outdoor work, hiking, hunting and just about any activity. I love the durability of the toe cap. They are waterproof except for very long periods in extremely wet conditions. After a cleanup, they still look almost like they did when they came out of the box. They are warm in winter, but not unbearably hot in the summer. I hope CAT continues this model, but it might be a while before I need to replace them.

Almost three years later and I'm back - by , Feb 04, 2015

These boots have been the best that I have ever owned. I wouldn't dream of replacing mine with anything else. I don't even have to have safety boots where I am now but these were comfortable from day one and they still are, even if they don't look so good any more and the soles are worn. So what if my feet are safer than they need to be. It's nice to be able to step in a puddle too. Sign me up for another pair. If I can edit this later, I may attach a picture.

Great Boot - Not Waterproof - by , Feb 19, 2013

I've worn this boot for a few months now. The sole looks great with no real signs of wear. It's a very comfortable boot. I'm on my feet all day, and these boots never hurt my feet. Even the break-in period was very short. The only problem is they are not waterproof. Even the minimal amount of water/snow, and my feet are wet. I always wear gaiters in the snow, so they must be leaking around the sole. Love the comfortability of the boot, but the wet feet is the reason for the 3 stars.

Thanks for the awesome comments on the comfort of this model but we are sorry they seem to be leaking despite the waterproofing built in. Cat Footwear will be in touch with you soon to help take care of those wet toes.
